How to improve FPS drops and GPU usage

After these changes have been made, be sure to restart the program to lock in these settings.

Settings Changes

Reduce the following settings: 

  • Volumetric lighting
  • Shadows
  • Grass

 


General

  • Turn on Streamer mode
  • Swap from Borderless Window to Fullscreen
  • Cap FPS at 60
  • Disable VSync
  • Disable Max Frame Rate
  • Disable Background Max Frame Rate
  • Turn off 'Enemies Flash on Hit' effect

 


AMD

  • Adrenaline
  • SAM
  • AMD Freesync can cap FPS at 60 regardless of in game Settings, this can be changed in the Radeon software.
  • AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) has been reported to cause some issues with Last Epoch, it's worth disabling this to see if your experience in game improves.

 


Nvidia

  • Clear the Cache
  • On the Nvidia control panel
    • Vertical sync to: Fast
    • Max framerate to: 59
    • Low latency mode: Ultra
    • Sometimes this defaults to 'power saving' which can cause issues. This is under 3D settings.
  • Nvidia GeForce Experience
    • Please open this program and find LE in your games list. Check what settings it has under current vs suggested. If possible, turn off NGF's optimization for LE.
  • Nvidia Drivers
    • There is currently an issue affecting some users of RTX 30 and 40 series cards, related to the latest Nvidia Drivers, which you can read about here. It is recommended that these users rollback their drivers to an earlier version, such as 566.36 to see if this improves their performance.

 


Intel

If you have processor turbo boost off, turn it on. For more information on how to do this, visit Intel's help site here.
 


PC Settings

  • Steam Launch Properties
    • -vulkan after setting to Dx12
    • -force-d3d12
  • Task Manager
    • After loading LE, everytime
      • Open Task Manager
      • Open ‘Details’ tab
      • Right Click ‘Last Epoch.exe’
      • Select “’Set Affinity’ and uncheck ‘cpu 0’
      • Click ‘Ok’
